Itty Bitty Bounty

Blueberry season is slowly making its appearance at our house. The three blueberry bushes in a row along the northernmost side of the property line almost wouldn’t be ours, if they were a few feet further and into the neighbors’ yard. My parents moved here almost 9 years ago and discovered these bushes bearing gifts that first summer; we’ve been enjoying them ever since. Besides the sweet-tart taste and bevy of health benefits they provide, they’re just beautiful to look at. I am biased, of course, as blue is my favorite hue, but who couldn’t appreciate the gem-like quality of the berries, their marble-esque shape and plump juiciness. And, cooked down into a sauce or baked into a pie, crumble, boy bait, pancake or muffin? Shoot, ain’t nothing better.
